What the North End of the Lake Has Booked
Every card is built from dated entries in our job log. Street names stay in; house numbers and business names stay out.
House Rekeys
On October 1 we rekeyed five locks at a house on Lugnut Lane in 28117, and the same address booked a second round on October 12. Grasshopper Circle had its rekey at the end of August. The locks stay on the doors and only the pins inside change, so the old keys stop turning.
How a rekey works →New Locks and Deadbolts
One July visit to Winding Creek Drive in Troutman covered a rekey and new locks together. In September two new deadbolts went into a house on Wingate Hill Road in Denver. When a lock is worn out, or a door has no deadbolt at all, new hardware beats a rekey.
Locks for houses →Repair First, Replace When It Can't Be Saved
A lock on Granite Hill Drive in Davidson was repaired in September. At a veterinary clinic in Davidson, the October 13 visit found a lock past saving, so we came back on October 22 and replaced the mortise lock.
Repair or replace →Store Thresholds and Receiving Doors
A discount store in Mooresville had its threshold repaired in July. Up the road in Troutman, a store's receiving door came completely off its hinges in August, then was hit by a truck in October, and we repaired it both times.
Commercial door hardware →When the Problem Is the Door, Not the Lock
A discount store in Mooresville needed its threshold seen to in July. The threshold is the metal strip across the floor of the doorway. Once a threshold works loose or bends, the door either drags over it or leaves a gap underneath, and neither one gets better on its own. That one was repaired in a single visit.
A few miles north in Troutman, we have been out twice for the same receiving door at another discount store. In late August the door had come completely off its hinges. We reinstalled the continuous hinge, the long hinge that carries the door along its full height, and put the closer back so the door pulls itself shut again. In October we were back because a truck had hit it. That repair took a new flush bolt and a new strike plate. A flush bolt sits recessed in the edge of a door, usually the inactive half of a double door, and slides up into the frame or down into the floor to hold that half shut. The strike plate is the metal piece on the frame that the latch catches.
If a door at your business has started to sag, or no longer pulls itself closed, call before it comes off the frame. Caught early, a sagging door is often a hinge or closer adjustment rather than a rebuild.
Mooresville and the Lake Towns, July to October
Inside Mooresville, the log shows the two Lugnut Lane rekeys in October, a rekey on Grasshopper Circle at the end of August, and a short September stop on West Mills Avenue, in 28115, for a magnetic door.
Across the lake in Denver, a house on Barefoot Cove Court was rekeyed in July, and Wingate Hill Road got two new deadbolts in September. In Davidson we repaired a lock on Granite Hill Drive in September and replaced a veterinary clinic's mortise lock on October 22, nine days after the first visit to look at it. A mortise lock sits in a deep pocket cut into the edge of the door, and its latch and bolt run from one steel case inside, which makes a failing one a bigger job than swapping a knob.
North of town, the Troutman house on Winding Creek Drive got its rekey and new locks in the same July visit. Further up I-77, an eviction in Statesville on October 23 ended with two new locks installed and two more rekeyed, so none of the old keys open those four locks anymore.
