What Charlotte Homeowners Call Us For

The most common call is a move-in rekey. You buy or rent a place, and there is no way to know how many copies of the key are floating around with previous owners, agents, cleaners, and contractors. One visit rekeys every exterior door so only your key works, and we can add deadbolts to any doors that are missing them while we're there. We wrote up the details in our guide to rekeying after a move.

The second big one is worn or failing hardware: a key that has to be jiggled just right, a deadbolt that won't throw unless you pull the door toward you, a knob that spins loose. Locks give warnings before they fail, and fixing one on a Tuesday afternoon costs less trouble than getting stuck behind it on a Saturday night. Where repair makes sense we repair; where the lock is done we say so and show you replacement options. While we're there, we can also walk your doors and point out the weak spots burglars actually use.

And of course, lockouts. If you're standing outside your house right now, our emergency lockout page explains how that works, or just call (704) 533-5643.

Renting the place? We do work on rentals with the landlord's or property manager's go-ahead. If you own a business or manage a portfolio of properties, that side of our work has its own page: commercial locksmith services. Landlords west of Charlotte can read how we handle eviction lock changes in Gaston County.

From the Job Log

What Home Calls Looked Like This Summer

The August log alone holds about thirty home visits. On the small end, a single cylinder rekeyed on Columbus Circle. On the big end, one stop on Grant Farm Drive in Fort Mill that covered a new rim cylinder, two new locks, and four rekeys before the truck left the driveway. In between: five locks rekeyed on Springs Mill Road, and two deadbolts added to a house on Wonder Way.

A June call on Cottage Oaks Drive was a lockout, and we fitted a new lockbox before leaving; in August the same house had us back to install seven locks and rekey two more. A repeat address is the best grade a locksmith gets. Smart locks kept the schedule busy too, with summer installs on Lavinia Lane in Charlotte and Venetian Way out in Waxhaw.

Home calls also run well past the city line. The last week of August lists Huntersville, Mint Hill, Waxhaw, and Fort Mill right next to the Charlotte addresses, all handled by the same crew.

FAQ

Residential Locksmith Questions

Rekeying keeps your existing hardware and changes which key works, so it costs less. It's the right call after moving in or losing a key. Replacement makes sense when the lock itself is worn, damaged, or you want a higher security grade. We'll tell you honestly which one your doors need.

Rekey every exterior door. Previous owners, agents, and contractors may still hold copies of the old keys. One visit covers the whole house, and we can add deadbolts at the same time if any doors are missing them.

Yes. For rekeying or lock changes on a rental we ask for the landlord's or property manager's authorization first, then do the work the same way we would for an owner. Landlords with multiple units can set up recurring turnover service.

Yes. We open house and apartment doors without damaging the lock or the frame, during business hours Mon–Sun 8:00am – 10:00pm. We'll ask for ID or another proof that you live there before opening the door.
